hey everyone, today i’m down in southern california taking a look at the all-new subaru sulterra this is subaru’s first full battery electric vehicle let’s take a look around the zotero was developed in collaboration with todos this definitely looks a little bit like the toyota bz4x but the subaru version is going to be a little bit different this is going to come standard with all-wheel There’s a lot of black body cladding around the wheel wells right now.
The front end looks a lot like the rest of the Subaru lineup, with full LED headlights, turn signals, and functional vents to help relieve pressure up front and improve aerodynamics since a fully v only requires a small grill and fog lights below.
At about 184 inches long, this is about the same size as the Subaru Forester, Rav4, and, of course, the Honda Crv.
This will compete in the compact crossover segment alongside hybrids and plug-in hybrids, and Subaru has stated that they wanted this to be just as capable as the rest of their lineup, so they’ve given it 8.3 inches of ground clearance and standard all-wheel drive.
Moving to the back, we have full led tail lights with led turn signals.
Compared to the Subaru Forester, there’s a bit of a sloped profile here, so cargo practicality could be a little bit lower.
We have a subwoofer back here on the driver’s side, a roller style cargo cover, the rear seats fold in a 60 40 fashion, and there’s a little bit of storage space right here under the load floor this is where the evse that comes with the vehicle is currently sitting, and you’ll also find a can of fix-a-flat in there because there’s no spare tire.
This foam divider does come out, but it doesn’t provide much more space.
Subaru has added a few useful features.
This little slot right over here is shaped this way so that you can actually take this roller cargo cover and put it right there under the load floor so that it’s not in your way if you’re carrying larger cargo now let’s take a quick look at the inside we have a power driver seat manual passenger seat two-way adjustable lumbar supine now let’s take a quick look at the inside we have a power driver seat manual passenger seat two-way adjustable lumbar supine These are regen paddles, but they look like regular paddle shifters from other Toyota vehicles, and the steering wheel itself has a bit of a subaru slash toyota vibe to it.
We then have controls for the standard adaptive cruise control on this vehicle, which, unlike other Subarus, will use a single camera system based on a lot of hardware components.
Touch the shifter we push down to put into drive mode, reverse, or neutral there’s a drive mode selection there heated steering wheel temperature controls right across there power button there electronic parking brake over here brake hold single pedal drive mode that’s sort of intriguing The 360-degree Article system and automatic parking are controlled by a single button.
However, there is no glove compartment on the passenger side, despite the fact that there is a reasonable amount of storage in here.
We have a storage cubby right here with a qi wireless charging map two large cup holders in this area definitely a large storage area right there behind that and a nearly flat load floor just under the center console there’s a large and capable storage area there with usb charge ports and 12 volt charge ports as well.
controls for heated rear seats I haven’t been in the zotero for very long, but I found the seats to be fairly comfortable and roomy back here as well.
I have about an inch of headroom even if my head is all the way back there on the headrest, and you can see that the dual pane moon roof stops right about here, so it doesn’t go completely over.
Subaru uses a skateboard style battery pack, so there’s just a tiny hump right back here that’s maybe half an inch or three quarters of an inch tall there are some cables and other things that need to go front and rear in an electric vehicle, and that’s usually the reason that we have a tiny hump in a lot of evs even with a complete skateboard style battery pack we have a rear arm rest with two cupholders in it again those 60 40 folding seats Be sure to hit that subscribe button down at the bottom of your screen and we’ll get you all those details as soon as we can.
I’ll also have an article out on the new Toyota bz4x, which is the soltera’s close cousin.
They’ll be built in the same factory and use a lot of the same components, but the pricing structure and feature set will be a little bit different.
The Toyota version will not come standard with all-wheel drive, and the all-wheel drive system will be programmed quite differently, so if you want a more capable off-road vehicle, this subaru right here with 8.3 inches of ground clearance and software that is definitely designed to tackle something a little bit rougher than total with the bz4x will be the way to go.
